G.B.A.G. is administered from central offices in Rosastrasse 2, Essen. It owns 26 independent coalmines and 14 coke-oven plants in the Ruhr Area and 3 additional coke-oven installations at blast-furnace works. These groups are Dortmund, Bochum, Gelsenkirchen and Hamborn. |
Item No. 30 CIOS REPORT NO. XXXIII-24 | REPORT ON INVESTIGATIONS BY FUELS AND LUBRICANTS TEAM AT THE BRABAG WORKS AT TROGLITZ-ZEITZ. Reported by: J.F.Ellis and J.R.Morley. The Brabag Works is designed to produce petrol, diesel oil, wax and lubricating oil by the hydrogenation of brown coal-tar. The necessary hydrogen is produced by the gasification of crude coke (brown coal low temperature coke) with oxygen in Winkler generators. |
Item No. 30 CIOS REPORT NO. XXXIII-29 | SULPHUR RECOVERY FROM SPENT PURIFIER OXIDE RUHRGAS A.G. HERWARTH STRASSE, ESSEN. Reported by: H.Bardgett. Four page report refering to information of Ruhrgas process of recovery of sulphur from oxide by washing with CS2. Flow sheet and appendix of extraction process of Ruhrgas A.G., are included. |
Item No. 30 CIOS REPORT NO. XXXIII-30 | STICKSTOFFWERK-HIBERNIA WANNE-EICKEL-RUHR. Recovery of Hydrocarbons from Coke. Reported by: H.Bardgett. Five page report on the investigation made to obtain information relating to the recovery of hydrocarbons from coke-oven gas. The Company operated at process for the recovery of hydrocarbons from coke oven gas by liquefaction and for the production of synthetic ammonia and ammonium fertilizers. The plant has a capacity for treating about 800,000 Nm3 of coke oven gas per day, and can fix about 150 tons of mitrogen per day, including nitrogen from air separation. A flow sheet of the process is show in an attached diagram. |
Item No. 30 CIOS REPORT NO. XXXIII-37 | COKE-OVEN INSTALLATIONS OF REICHWERKE A.G., HERMANN GORING WERKE AT WATENSTEDT NEAR BRUNSWICK. Reported by: H.Bardgett. The main purpose of the ovens is to provide coke for the 16 blast furnaces of the adjacent iron and steel plants. Eight of these modern furnaces are of 6.8 meters hearth diameter and are rated at 350 tons of iron per day, and eight are of diameter 7.2 meters and are rated at 650 tons per day. The coke ovens were selected as targets for investigation mainly because it was understood that weekly caking coals form upper Silesia were utilized in the production of blast furnace coke and also because the installation comprised different types of ovens operating on similar coal. It was hoped that the results obtained on the plant might throw light on the relative performance of the ovens. The management would prefer, in order to make god coke, to use only Ruhr coals but they found it possible to make good coke from blends containing up to 30% Upper Silesian coal. |

Item No. 30 CIOS REPORT NO. XXXIII-40 | NORDSTERN COKE-OVEN PLANT GELSENKIRCHNER BERGWERKS A.G. Reported by: R. Neuman and H. H. Bates. The plant consists of 4 batteries of Still 6 meters high ovens, No. 1 being built in 1928, No. 2 in 1930 and Nos. 3 and 4 in 1938. It was the largest privately owned plant in Germany at that time. In addition it has a number of novel features not found else where. Quite a lot of apparatus was intact although the buildings were completely destroyed. The low pressure benzole scrubbers and ammonia washers were badly shaken from their foundations. The exhausters and high pressure apparatus was intact. The gas holders were destroyed. The steel work and mains were tangled mass and this in itself was sufficient to put the plant out of commission for some time. The Ethylene and Methane plant was destroyed. The main plant, by product plant, coal handling plant and batteries are described with a flow sheet of the process included. Five page report. |
