In a mixture produced by the reaction of gaseous hydrocarbons, such as CH4, C2H6, or C3H8, with H2O vapor, the ratio of CO to H2 is increased by adding to the starting components CO2 in suitable proportion. The reaction is effected at 700° -900° in the presence of a Ni catalyst.
