Abstract

A catalyst is suggested for the production of methane from carbon oxides and hydrogen, containing oxides of nickel, calcium and aluminium. To increase the catalyst activity in the temperature interval of 260-650C and improve its thermal stability, zirconium dioxide is added to the catalyst having the following composition (wt.%):

Nickel oxide 25-45
Calcium oxide 2-5
Zirconium dioxide 3.5-47.0
Alumina the rest

The catalyst is prepared by co-precipitation of nickel, zirconium and aluminum nitrates solution by sodium carbonate. The formed precipitate is separated, dried, calcined and extruded (shaped). In order to increase the catalyst activity in the temperature interval of 260-650C and improve its thermal stability, the co-precipitation is carried out in the presence dispersed calcium aluminate having a particle size less than 40-50 μm. The extrudate is calcined at 850-950C for 10 hr.
