Abstract

PURPOSE: In the production of hydrocarbons from synthesis gas, a catalyst containing ruthenium and tungsten is used at their specified ratio according to their states so that the selectivity of light fractions is specifically increased, while that of heavy fractions is extremely decreased.

CONSTITUTION: In a catalyst containing ruthenium and tungsten, the atomic ratio of Ru/W is made lower than 0.018, when the catalyst is composed of tungsten supporting ruthenium, or the atomic ratio is made less than 0.19, when both of Ru and W are supported on another carrier. A gas mix containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide is brought into contact with the above catalyst to produce hydrocarbons with extremely high selectivity for 4-6C fraction and very low selectivity for 10 or more carbon atom fraction.
