Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance activity and selectivity in the Fischer-Tropsch process by depositing a cluster containing not less than two metals selected from the group consisting of Pt, Pd and Fe on a support consisting of silica, thereby forming a catalyst.

CONSTITUTION: A composite metal cluster precursor containing at least two metals selected from the group consisting of Pt, Pd and Fe is impregnated with silica in an inert solvent. This silica is then heat-treated so as to form a catalyst supporting a cluster containing at least two metals selected from the group consisting of Pt, Pd and Fe. It is preferable for this multiple metal cluster to be deposited on the silica support in an amount of 0.005-10 wt.%. The use of the aforesaid catalyst in the Fischer-Tropsch process and the oxo- process permits a high inversion rate and selectivity to be maintained for many hours.
