Return to Japanese Patent Table of Contents JP1190638 Abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a lower saturated hydrocarbon by reaction of carbon dioxide with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst composition containing a metal or its compound having a catalytic activity of hydrogenating carbon dioxide and a crystalline aluminosilicate of a specific silica/alumina molar ratio.
CONSTITUTION: In the presence of a catalyst composition of a mixture containing (A) a metal or its compound having catalytic activity of hydrogenating carbon dioxide and (B) a crystalline aluminosilicate of less than 10 silica/ alumina molar ratio, the reaction of carbon dioxide with hydrogen is carried out at 250-400oC, 51-70 kg/cm2 gauge, to give saturated hydrocarbons of 2-5 carbon atoms. The component A in the catalyst composition is preferably an oxide of Cu, Zn or Cr, while the component B is preferably dealuminated Y-type zeolite of 4-10 silica/alumina molar ratio, and they are mixed at a weight ratio of 1/3-3/1. The reaction can be finished only at one stage, thus only one reactor is needed, further, the products are given in high yield and high selectivity.
