ABSTRACT:

A computer program composed of a mass and energy balance for a Sasol type Fischer-Tropsch fluidized bed reactor is presented. A parametric study is performed using temperature, pressure, degree of hydrocarbon saturation and average hydrocarbon chain length as variables. Increasing temperature is found to decrease the amount of hydrocarbons formed. The results of variation of pressure confirmed a relationship exists between conversion, temperature and residence time. The effect on product distribution by varying the last two parameters is negligible. Relationships between reactor pressure and temperature and the hydrocarbon degree of saturation and average chain length exists, however, at this time only general trends are known. A summary of the thermodynamics and kinetics of the Fischer-Tropsch reaction is also presented. (ERA citation 06:006839)
