ABSTRACT: The draft report of the literature of three-phase fluidization was revised based on comments received from H-Coal participants. The design and construction of the fluid dynamics unit was completed. Unit debugging is almost complete. Initial experiments started using water and nitrogen. Characterization of the fluids and solids which will be used in this experimental program continued. The surface tension of the liquids to be used in the cold flow unit were measured as a function of temperature. The particle size distribution of the coal-char particles to be used in making slurries in the project was also obtained. An attempt was also made to measure the viscosities of toluene and mineral oil slurries with a Brookfield Synchro-Lectric viscometer with a UL adapter. The viscosities were found to decline with time in the viscometer, indicating the coal-char particles were settling in the viscometer. A liquid sampling system was designed to obtain liquid samples from HRI's PDU. HRI and Battelle were visited to obtain their comments and suggestions on the design. Parts for the system were ordered, and the system has been assembled. (ERA citation 08:039935) REPORT NUMBER: FE-2588-10 CONTRACT NUMBER: AC05-77ET10149 |
