ABSTRACT: A series of cobalt-based F-T catalysts supported on alumina, silica, or titania were prepared with Ru and/or ZrO(sub 2) as promoters. All catalysts were extensively characterized by different methods. The catalysts were evaluated in terms of their activity and selectivity both in fixed bed and slurry bubble column reactors. Similar trends were observed in both reactors for support effects. However, this was not the case for the effects of promoters. Noble metal promotion effects were much more accentuated in the fixed bed reactor than under slurry bubble column reaction conditions, while the opposite seemed to hold true in the case of ZrO(sub 2) promotion effects, at least for SiO(sub 2)-supported Co catalysts.
