ABSTRACT:

This report contains estimates of the potential production capabilities of the synthetic fuels industry and the resources necessary to achieve these levels of production. Topic areas covered include: Plant investment; input resources (coal, water, oxygen, electric power); construction materials and manpower; and research and development financial requirements needed for commercial scale production. An additional section on the impact of plant operations discusses environment, nature and source of pollutants from coal conversion process, operating personnel safety and health, social impact anticipated from the urbanization of rural areas, the political impact of plant operations, local economic impact of plant construction and operation, and the financial impact of plant operation.  The study describes the technological aspects of the coal conversion process and gives an economic analysis of unit product costs.
