3986.  WORSHAM, C. H., AND HOLDER, C. H. (Standard Oil Development Co.). Fatty-Acid Production in Hydrocarbon Synthesis. United States Patent 2,521,436, Sept. 5, 1950; appl. filed Sept. 3, 1948, Serial No. 47,706; 2 claims (Cl. 260-449.6).Chem. Abs., vol. 44, 1950, p. 11069.

High yields of fatty acids mainly acetic acid, may be formed at low C formation ratio when the hydrocarbon synthesis process is operated at pressure of 500-700 p. s. i. g. recycle: fresh feed of 1.0-1.3:1=H2:CO and a synthesis gas conversion level of about 93% is maintained. CO2 concentration > 30% is maintained in the total feed to the reactor as well as H2 partial pressure >175 p. s. i. Low H2:CO ratio, ordinarily associated with high C production, under condition of this invention is not conducive to high C deposition. 3 United States Patents cited.
