PATENT 3943. ---- [WILLIAMS, R] (Du Pont Ammonia Corp.). Catalytic Ammonia Synthesis of Production of Oxygenated Organic Compounds. British Patent 344,119, Dec. 31, 1928. Chem. Abs., vol. 25, 1931, p. 4667. In a cyclic process, the reacting materials are brought into contact with the hot catalyst, makeup gases are then added, and the mixture formed is brought into contact with purifying material, reaction products are removed, and the gases are recirculated. Various details of apparatus are described, in 1 form of which a single catalyst chamber may be used and the makeup gases introduced at the junction of a layer of purifying material and main catalyst, which may be similar in composition and formed by fusion and reduction of a mixture of Fe, K, and Al oxides, for NH3 synthesis, or a mixture of Cu, Cr and Zn oxides for production of oxygenated organic compounds form H2 and C oxides. |
