Gases are treated with solid, finely subdivided salts capable of yielding O carried on a vehicle having large surface area, for example, activated C, SiO2 gel, or bog Fe ore at approximately 80°.  The process is particularly suitable for removing CS3, mercaptans.  H2S should be removed before this treatment.
