PATENTS 3877. ------. [WATSON, C. W.] (The Texas Co.). Synthesis of Hydrocarbons. United States Patent 2,537,496, Jan. 9, 1951; appl. filed Mar. 26, 1947, Serial No. 737,326; 7 claims (Cl. 260-676). In this process, the 1st stage consists of carbiding Fe catalyst by reacting the Fe with synthesis gas comprising H2 and CO at such a temperature that there is almost complete consumption of the CO and only H2O vapor is produced as a byproduct. In the 2d stage the Fe carbide is reacted with the H2, which is now substantially free of CO in a decarbiding zone at a temperature at which liquid hydrocarbons are formed. |
