3850. ----- [VOORHIES, A.] (Standard Oil Development Co.). Synthesis of Hydrocarbons From Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen With an Iron-type Catalyst. United States Patent 2,469,755, May 10, 1949; appl. filed May 1, 1948, Serial No. 24,684; 13 claims (Cl. 260-449.6). Chem. Abs., vol. 43, 1949, p. 6397.

Fe catalysts with excellent disintegration resistance are prepared by fusing a promoted Fe oxide and contacting the molten mass with a low boiling liquid, such as H2O. The melt may be poured in a fine stream into a relatively large amount of the cooling agent. In this way particles of the desired size may be recovered directly from the cooling liquid. When obtained in large aggregates, the catalyst is ground to the desired size, 30-100 μ, and reduced. 1 literature ref. and 4 United States patents cited.
