3838.  VON BETHMANN, M. F. AND STIEBLING, E. (Ruhrchemie A. G.) [Production of Soaps.] German Patent 817,483, Oct. 18, 1951.; appl. filed Oct. 2, 1948 (Cl. 23 c). Chem. Zentralb., 1952, I, p. 943.

Olefinic hydrocarbon fractions, comprising at most 2-3 consecutive C numbers, obtained from the primary, cracked, or dehydrogenated products of the catalytic hydrogenation of CO, are converted by gases containing CO and H2 into alcohols. From these is separated the fraction passing over closely below the high-boiling compounds (heavy oil) and converted by means of alkali fusion into soaps.
