Manufacturing a combustible liquid like benzine by heating hydrocarbons of the CH4, ethylene, or acetylene series (with the addition of H2) in the electric are furnace, at least to 2,000°. Such gases may be obtained, Such gases may be obtained, for example, by the dry distillation of turf. A mixture of CO and CO2 with H2 serves the same purpose. The product has a sp. gr. of 0.723, b. at 85.5°, and has a constitution between that of the paraffins and olefins. |
