3733. TAYLOR, A. W. C., TURNER, G., AND IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, LTD. Aliphatic Aldehydes. British Patent 633,184, dec. 12, 1949. Chem. Abs., vol. 44, 1950, p. 4924.

Heating a mixture of olefin, CO, and H2 under pressure to 90°-180° in the presence of a Co catalyst yields predominantly an aliphatic aldehyde. Thus di-isobutene at a rate of 2 1. per hr. and a 3:1 mixture of H2 and CO at a rate of 6 m. 3 per hr. were passed over a metallic Co catalyst at 130° and 250atm. pressure to yield 47% of nonaldehyde, 45% of di isobutene, 4% of octane, 4% of condensed products, and 0.13% of Co in combined form.
