3553. -----[STANDARD OIL CO.]. Synthesis of Hydrocarbons.  British Patent 631,682, 1949.  Fuel Abs., vol. 7, 1950 abs. 2131.

Method of synthesizing hydrocarbons and oxygenated hydrocarbons that comprises feeding a mixture containing CO and H2 to a 1st reaction zone containing a bed of fluidized powdered Fe or Co catalyst, maintaining the 1st reaction zone at elevated temperature and pressure, permitting the reactants to remain in the 1st zone for enough time to effect a restricted H2 conversion, withdrawing a crude products from the 1st zone, cooling the product to form a condensate and gaseous fraction, withdrawing the latter from the cooling zone, charging a feed mixture comprising the gaseous fraction and containing a ration of H2:CO higher than that in the mixture fed to the 1st zone to a 2d reaction zone containing a bed of fluidized powdered Fe or Co catalyst at a higher temperature than that of the 1st zone, permitting the reactants to remain in the 2d zone for enough time to effect the desired conversion, withdrawing the product from the 2d zone and causing it to pass to a cooling zone, and recovering from the cooling zone the normally liquid products formed in the 2d zone.
