Continuous process is employed for the production of Oxo synthesis products that comprises the utilization of at least 2 reaction zones. feed comprising olefins together with synthesis gas is introduced into an initial reaction zone containing a supported Co, Ni, or Fe catalyst along with H2.  Thus the catalyst metal carbonyl, which is formed in the initial zone, is decomposed, and the metal itself collects in the secondary reaction zone.  After the catalyst in the initial reaction zone is depleted to a predetermined critical minimum quantity, the flow of the stream is reversed with respect to the initial and secondary reaction zones.
