Feed mixture comprising CO:H₂=1:3 is introduced into a synthesis reaction zone.  The feed mixture is further characterized in that the concen5tration of the CO₂ is maintained at a relatively high level so that the molecular ratio of  is not over 2.  The reaction zone is kept at a temperature and pressure adapted to produce the desired synthesis reaction.
