PATENT 3493. ----- [STANDARD OIL CO.] Gas Manufacture. British Patent 680,545, Oct. 8, 1952. Chem. Abs., vol. 47, 1953, p. 4065. Carbonaceous materials are converted to H2 and CO in this continuous 2-stage process. In the 1st stage, pulverized coke is heated to 2,000° F. in a fluidized bed by partial combustion with preheated air. The heated coke is transported through a reactor tube, where it is partly gasified with superheated steam, to a 2d fluidized bed where additional gasification reduces the temperature to about 1,700° F. Excess solids are discarded, and the rest are recirculated to the 1st reactor. |
