Liquid hydrocarbons can be synthesized in high yields by forcing a mixture of H₂ and CO in 0.7 to 1.3 molar ratio through a fluidized mass of catalyst (Co and ThO₂ on kieseguhr) in a single-stage reaction zone maintained under Fischer synthesis conditions of temperature and pressure, adding H₂ to the reaction zone at spaced points to maintain the H₂ to CO within 0.7 to 1.3 throughout the reaction zone.
