Intimate mixture of Cu oxide (4 parts) and Zn oxide (96 parts) is prepared by precipitation is dried and reduced at lowest possible temperature with H₂ or CO.  200-250 gm. of methyl alcohol per hr. per dm³ of this catalyst is produced from H₂ and CO at 150 atm.
