In the catalytic production of oxygenated organic compounds such as alcohols, an inert gas such as N₂ or an excess of H₂ is introduced into the gas mixture before reaction, and with a gas mixture of suitable composition, the production of NH₃ may be combined with that of oxygenated organic compounds.  Gives an example of the production of MeOH and N₃ from a mixture of CO, N₂, and H₂.  Describes an arrangement of apparatus.
