In apparatus of the type described in British Patent 268,721 (abs. 3428). reacting gases are circulated through the inner catalyst-containing receptacle in indirect contact with the catalyst in excess of the quantity that will pass into direct contact with the catalyst, and the excess is discharged to the outside of the apparatus after heating.  Describes various structural details.
