For catalytic synthesis of MeOH from CO and H2 at elevated temperature and pressure, a catalyst is used comprising either a mixture of Sr and and PbO, preferably in the proportion of 3 or 4 atoms of Sr for each molecule of PbO, or a mixture of 3 atom proportion of Zn with 1 mol. proportion of Bi2O3.
