3360.            SMITH, L. B., AND KREBS, R. W.  (Standard Oil Development Co.).  Hydrocarbon Synthesis Reaction.  United States Patent 2,498,845, Feb. 28, 1950; appl. filed May 7, 1946, Serial No. 667,786; 5 claims (Cl. 260-449.6).  Chem. Abs., vol. 44, 1950, p. 4656.

Spent fluidized Fe catalyst is traced with H2 at temperatures 600°-700° F.  CH4 is introduced to purge the catalyst of the H2 used in the regeneration.  Synthesis gas is added in gradually increasing amounts together with CH2 under synthesizing conditions until the synthesis gas represents 100% of the fresh feed.  In this way temperature is controlled during the start up of the reaction cycle and does not vary to any appreciable extent.  2 foreign and 3 United States patents cited.
