PATENT

3346. SILICA GEL CORP. Catalytic Reactions With Suspended Catalysts.  British Patent 304,269, July 12, 1927.  Chem. Abs., vol. 23, 1929, p. 4756.

In reactions such as SO3 or NH3 production, or hydrogenation of oils, a pulverized catalyst such as silica gel, which may carry Pt, Fe, and Cu, or Ni according to the reaction to be effected, is mixed with the gas and carried through the reaction space, then separated, revivified, and refused.  The gas need not be freed from contact poisons as these will be taken up by the catalyst and removed from it in the revivification.  Describes an apparatus and numerous details.
