An apparatus for carrying out fluid, gas, or liquid, catalytic reactions, consisting of a series of catalyst chambers, each equipped with cooling and heating devices to maintain the optimum temperature, is applicable to the formation of CH₄ from water gas, the hydrogenation or pyrolysis of C₂H₂, the decomposition of low-molecular hydrocarbons, and the condensation of phenols to phenyl ethers.
