3321.  SEGUY, J. D. (Universal Oil Products Co.).  Cracking Hydrocarbon Oils.  United States Patent2,039,459, May 5, 1936; appl. filed Dec. 14, 1932.  Chem. Abs., vol. 30, 1936, p. 4309.

Oil, such as a residual petroleum oil, is cracked in a cracking zone, and residue separated from vapors is treated with air and steam at temperatures sufficiently high  to form a gaseous mixture containing CO and H2; this mixture is introduced into an independent zone maintained under synthesizing conditions of temperature, pressure, and catalysis in which the CO and H2 are synthesized into condensable products (suitably in the presence of a catalyst), and the vapors from this synthesis are combined with vapors from the cracking operation ; the commingled vapors are fractionated, and resultant reflux condensate is passed to the cracking zone, the fractionated vapors being finally condensed.  Describes apparatus.
