PATENT 3295. SCHMIDT, O., SEYDEL, K., AND FELLER, A. (I. G. Farbenindustrie A. G.). Purifying Catalytic Products or other Oxygen-Containing Organic Compounds. United States Patent 1,684,640, Sept. 18, 1928; appl. filed June 9, 1926. Chem. Abs., vol. 22, 1928, p. 4536. Mixtures of alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, and esters or other O-containing compounds of a higher order than MeOH, such as may be obtained by the catalytic hydrogenation of oxides of C, are treated in the vapor phase with H2 at a temperature at least of 50° (but < the temperature at which decomposition of the organic compounds would begin) in the presence of a hydrogenating catalyst, such as a; Ni-Cu or Ni-Al catalyst. This treatment serves to improve the color and odor of the material. |
