Lignite dust is gasified by means of a circulating stream of rinse gas into which the dust remaining in suspension is introduced.  The reaction space per m.³ of water or synthesis gas produced is not less than 0.03 m.³  The dust must be finer than 60% of the residue on the 4,900-mesh sieve.
