Aliphatic aldehydes or their compounds are produced from CO, H2, and olefins by passing the latter with up to 6 C atoms at temperatures < about 200° and under pressures of 50 atm. and upward (100-150 atm.) over catalysts, with metals of the Fe group (Co) as the main constituents.
