Gas containing H2 and CO or a mixture of CO2, CH4, and H2 is passed over reduced Ni, Fe or Co heated to 300°-500°. Some C deposits on the metal, and steam is passed over it while heated to 400°-500°, CO2, CH4, and H2 being produced with regeneration of metals.
