Hydrocarbons are subjected to a heat treatment preferably under pressure, in the presence of MgO or ZnO and fuller’s earth.  The temperature of the treatment may be 130°-180°.  The treatment is applied to hydrocarbons obtained by polymerization of olefins or mixtures of hydrocarbons in the presence of condensation agents containing Cl, for example, AlCl3.
