Synthetic paraffins with more than 16 C atoms, particularly those high-melting hard parffins from the hydrogenation of CO, are treated in the presence of H₂SO₄or nitrosyl sulfuric acid with nitrous gases. Before the oxidation, superoxides that easily evolve O₂, such as leadsuperoxide, are added. By such treatment yields of 94-94.5% of oxidation products are obtained.
