Catalyst is used consisting of Al₂O₃ and Cr₃O₃ activated with Co and ThO₂. A suitable catalyst consists of 66% by weight Al₂O₃, 30% Cr₂O₃, 3.5%Coc and 0.5% ThO₂. The most favorable operating conditions are a pressure of 1 atm. and 580°. A 20-30% higher yield of olefins can be obtained than by previous methods.
