In separating mixtures of sulfuric acid esters of high molecular hydrocarbons, especially those of molecular size C₁₂—C₂₀, and of paraffin hydrocarbons, the mixtures, after neutralization of the esters with highly concentrated alkaline liquors, suitably 65-75%, or earth alkaline oxides or hydroxides are continuously extracted at 20°-40° with small amounts of low-boiling organic solvents, chiefly pentane and/or hexane.
