3081. ----- [RUHRCHEMIE, A.G.] [Process for Purifying Synthetic Fatty Acids.]  German Patent Appl. --. R 649, filed Dec. 22, 1942, FIAT Reel K-30, frames 8,019-8,023; PB 73,587; TOM Reel 36, bag 3,454, item 36, 5 pp.; Meyer Transl. PC-S-IV, Wax Oxidation, vol. 1, ch. 15, 1948, p.39.

In separating nonacid impurities from crude fatty acids through extraction therefrom of prepared soap solutions, if desired in the presence of the lower alcohols, concentrated acid soap solutions, which contain up to 1 mol. of soap 2 mol. of fatty acids, are extracted with benzine or similar hydrocarbons.  The soap solutions under treatment contain 20-35% of total fatty acids and before extraction are made up to the neutral pH point by the addition of acids or the introduction of CO2.  The method affords a considerable saving in alkali for the neutralization of the fatty acids and an increase in the space-time yields.  The process is suitable for processing crude fatty acids of any kind and is particularly applicable to the processing of fatty acid mixtures obtained through the reaction of olefins with CO and H2.
