Process for producing catalysts of Co and Mg for use in the catalytic conversion of mixtures of CO and H₂ by precipitation simultaneously or successively of the Mg to Co contained in a solution of their nitrates or chlorides, in which a Mg solution having a larger content of Mg than corresponds to the stoichlometric ration of Mg to Co in the catalyst to be produced.
