Before treating the olefinic primary products of CO hydrogenation with CO and H₂ to produce oxygenated compounds, the primary products are subjected to a deoxidizing treatment by passing them in the vapor state at 300°-400° over a H₂O-free difficultly reducible oxide, such as Al₂O3, ThO₂, or Cr₂O₃.
