3052.----- [RUHRCHEMIE, A. G.]  [Process for Preparing  Iron Catalysts for in the Hydrogenation of Carbon Monoxide.]  German Patent Appl. R 107,515, R 506, filed May 3, 1940 (Cl. IV d-12 o).   TOM Reel 177, frames 1,709-1,712; Meyer Transl.  PC-S_II.  Fischer-Tropsch, vol. 1, chap. 52, 1948, p. 131.

Amount of strong hydroxide required for the preparation of precipitated Fe catalysts is reduced considerably by first precipitating the catalyst with a weak hydroxide or carbonate (NH3, Mg, Ca hydroxide), and then impregnating with a strong alkali (K, Rb, or Cs hydroxide).  Results from catalysts prepared in this way are superior to those obtained with catalysts prepared exclusively with strong hydroxide, contraction 36% against 27-34%.
