            Olefins before condensation and polymerization are treated with an alkaline agent such as caustic soda and after polymerization with AlCl₃ in known manner with dechlorinating agents such as bleaching earth and/or MgO, ZnO or Zn at temperatures of 180°-240°.  Such a pretreatment with alkali gives a product with only 14 mg. per kg. Ch as against 350 mg. without such treatment.
