2972. ----- [RUHRCHEMIE, A. G.]  [Method for Making Textiles or Other Fibrous Material Waterproof or Water-Resistant.]  German Patent Appl.-, R 647, filed Dec. 14, 1942.  TOM Reel 36, bag 3,454, item 36, 5 pp.; Meyer Transl. PC—S—IV, Wax Oxidation, vol. 1, chap. 12, 1948, p. 30.

In H2O-proofing textiles by impregnation with high molecular fatty acids, those fatty acids are used that are obtained by the oxidation by means of oxidizing agents of the higher aliphatic hydrocarbons.  Also, use can be made of the oxidation products that are obtained through treatment with nitrous gases in presence of concentrated H2SO4 or nitrosyl H2SO4.  As raw material for the oxidation, paraffins obtained by the catalytic reduction of CO with H2 are used.
