Worn out catalysts used in the synthesis of organic compounds from CO and H₂ that are obtained by precipitating metals acting catalytically in presence of kieselguhr, are renewed by dissolving them in a dilute solution of HNO₃ containing preferably 3-5% free HNO₃  and reprecipitating the components capable of catalytic action.
