Solid paraffin hydrocarbons are produced from CO and H2 with a Co catalyst at or near atmospheric pressure and at 160°-175°, the reaction gases being passed at not more than 20 1. per hr. per 1. of catalyst, which results in a yield of 50% or more of solid paraffins. The catalyst preferably contains no catalytic metal other than Co and is activated by ThO2 or MgO. The products are especially suitable as ingredients of polishing wax.
