In the catalytic synthesis of organic compounds, particularly the formation of hydrocarbons from CO and H2. the high initial activity of the catalyst is reduced by adding natural or synthetic liquid hydrocarbons thereto, during  or after its manufacture.  The products of the reaction are most suitable for addition.  The added liquid is gradually removed by the gases traversing the reaction chamber
