            Describes apparatus for maintaining the inlet of a reactor cooler than the outlet.  A fluid  cooling agent (I) is passed through a reactor in indirect heat transfer with the catalyst.  (I)  passes through 2 or more cooling zones in series, the cooling zones being connected to each other through a throttling valve so as to produce a progressive decrease in pressure from 1 cooling zone to the next in the direction of flow of (I).
