2880.----- [RUHRCHEMIE A. G.]  [Catalytic Cracking of Hydrocarbons.]  German Patent 759,895, Sept. 13, 1940; appl. R 108,321, R 536 (Cl. 23 b-1.04).  TOM Reel 37, bag 3,451, Item 35; TOM Reel 177, frames, 1609-1611;  Meyer Transl.  PC--S—II, Fischer-Tropsch, vol. 1, chap. 34, 1948, p. 84.

Catalytic cracking of hydrocarbon vapors, such as paraffinic Kogasin, takes place in 3 stages:

                        1. Cracking, accompanied by formation of C deposits.

                        2.  Removal of hydrocarbons from catalyst.

                        3.  Regeneration of the catalyst by oxidation of the C deposit.

Paticularly high quality products were obtained by addtion of H2O vapor to stage (1)  (30-70 wt. % of initial hydrocarbons) and by flushing with pure H2O vapor in  (2).  but serious fluctuations in temperature were observed.  This eliminated by addition of an amount of H2O vapor corresponding to a saturation temperature of 50°-70° C. in Stage  (3)  to the oxidizing gas.  The process was especially suited to Al silicate catalysts (activated fuller’s earth).  it ensured unifom operation of the converter and a constant operating temperature.  40% cracking gasoline was obtained. C deposit amount to 1.2-2.5 wt. %.
